The Aussie Safety Stirrup
The AUSSIE SAFETY STIRRUP is unique in that it provides both comfort and safety. A 3.5 degree camber on the bottom automatically drops the heel for perfect balance.
The curve on the side promotes foot release in a drag. The cast aluminum stirrup is 14 ounces. The foot rests on a platform that is 4" deep and 5 1/4" at its widest.
Padded suede leather tread is secured in place with a Velcro closure and a leather rib that rides in the slot cut into the bottom of the stirrup. The pad comes in black or brown.
The height clearance for the foot is 5". The slot at the top is 1 1/2" long and 5/8" wide and takes most English leathers.
The clearance at the top of the stirrup, under the cross section is 3" and takes most Western fenders and Aussie camp draft stirrup leathers.
Colin Dangaard describes inventing this stirrup and its virtues in this VIDEO.
