The Fabulous Fenders
The FABULOUS FENDERS were designed in 1979 by Colin Dangaard when he was the first to introduce the Australian Stock Saddle to America.
Traditionally Australian Stock Saddles were fitted with English leathers that worked fine if the rider wore long boots, or special padding on jodhpurs.
Colin’s 4” wide fender took out the “pinch”. After a decade Colin replaced the fenders with campdraft leathers, that offered way more adjustment. But still many people like the fabulous fenders, and prior to the introduction of the Campdraft leathers many thousands were fitted on Aussie saddles.
Obviously, those are wearing out, so now we are offering replacements. The Fenders are fitted to a two-tongue buckle that is fitted (bolted) to a stirrup iron.
This buckle is fitted to the tongue of the sleeve with the buckle facing to the INSIDE. This places it against the side of the horse when the rider has his or her foot in the stirrup and goes up the trail, so the buckle then does not hit the shin bone.
A sleeve is first slid up the fender and, when the buckle is in place, it is slid down to cover the buckle.
The fenders come in four sizes, 21”, 25”, 26”, and 28” . Colors are light brown, dark brown and black. Please indicate on the order form the length and color preference.
